Push-to-talk that feels like a radio.

Patch is a push-to-talk service for teams, families, and first responders. Channels for group comms. Direct chirps for 1-to-1. Cross-system bridges when you need mutual aid. Smartphones become radios — no hardware to buy, no contracts.

What you get

The features you'd expect from a modern radio platform — without the hardware, the contracts, or the vendor lock-in.

Channels

Always-on talk groups. Hold to transmit, release to listen. Permissions are explicit — talk, listen, initiate calls — and admins control them per group.

Chirp (1-to-1)

Direct connect by 6-digit number. Press, talk, your voice plays through their phone instantly — no ring screen. Formal organizations can flip to ring-style for explicit accept.

Bridges

Patch groups across organizations on the fly. Built for mutual aid and MCI scenarios where multiple departments need to talk to each other right now.

Recording

Per-group and per-system policies. Optional for casual use, always-on for compliance. You control whether and when.

Organizations, not silos

Each organization on Patch is fully isolated — its own admins, members, channels, and policies — with the option to bridge to others when an event demands it.

Native apps

First-class Android and iOS apps. Low-latency audio. PTT tones, background talk, in-app updates.

Built for

Volunteer fire / EMS
On-call coordination without the radio bill

Smartphones replace handhelds for off-duty and personal vehicles. Open channels for routine traffic, ring-style direct connect for officer-to-officer when accept-before-audio matters.

Families
A walkie-talkie for everyone you trust

Add family members by name, open-mode the system, and chirp anyone instantly. Like the old Nextel phones — but free, on devices you already own.

Field crews
Operations channels that scale

Construction, agriculture, events, security — anywhere a team needs to talk fast across distance without the latency of a phone call.

Pricing

Patch is free during beta. No card on file, no dark-pattern upsells, no surprise contracts. Create a free account and start talking — we'll learn the rest together.

After beta · paid tiers

Patch will eventually charge a fee — that's what makes the service sustainable. We're keeping the model flexible because a family of five and a 200-person fire department need very different things. Pricing will likely combine a few of these:

  • · Per-organization base fee, scaling with size
  • · Per-active-user for larger orgs
  • · Add-ons for recording retention, bridges, and (eventually) hardware-radio integration
  • · Discounted rates for volunteer fire / EMS, non-profits, and mutual-aid networks
  • · A free tier for small personal / family use, so it stays approachable

Beta users get plenty of notice: we'll publish concrete pricing before billing starts, with a transition window and early-adopter benefits for organizations already on the platform. Custom deals are on the table for anything outside the standard model — just ask.

Compatible radios

Patch ships its own radio (the KSUN ZL35) but also runs on most Android-based POC radios. Bring your own if you have one — here's what we've tested.

Hardware checklist
  • · Runs Android 8.0 (API 26) or newer
  • · Has a hardware PTT key that emits a Linux keycode
  • · USB cable + USB debugging accessible (for provisioning)
  • · Microphone + speaker (not just an earpiece jack)
  • · Wi-Fi or cellular data; GPS optional
How to add yours to this list

If you have a radio that meets the checklist and want it certified, plug it into a Mac running Patch RSS — the app will tell you what works. Email us the resulting status report and we'll add it here (with your permission).

Questions

How do I sign up?
Click Sign up free at the top of this page and create an account with your email — no invitation needed. Once you are in, you can set up channels for your team or join an existing organization.
What does it cost?
Nothing during beta. No card on file. After beta, Patch will introduce paid tiers — likely a mix of per-organization, per-user, and add-on pricing, with discounted rates for volunteer fire / EMS and a free tier for small personal use. Beta organizations will be notified of concrete numbers well before any billing starts, and we'll discuss transition terms case by case.
Is my audio recorded?
Only if a system admin enables recording for a channel or for direct connect. Recording policy is shown to members and audited. You decide whether to record and for how long.
Who can my members talk to?
Only people inside your organization, by default. Channels are scoped to one org; Direct Connect requires either an accepted contact relationship or an open-mode setting your admin enables. Bridges between organizations only happen when both sides opt in.
Does it work on the lock screen?
Android: yes — channels stay live in the background, and direct chirps wake the app via push. iOS: incoming chirps ring through the system call UI when the app is backgrounded; foreground gives the same instant chirp UX as Android.
Do I need special hardware?
No. Patch runs on the smartphones your members already have. Channels and direct chirps work over Wi-Fi or cellular. Hardware radio integration is on the roadmap for later.
